EVESHAM United came from behind to hammer Exmouth Town 4-1 and reach the Southern League Division One South play-off final.

After Benjamin Griffin put Exmouth ahead in first-half injury time, two goals in the space of a minute in the second period turned the game in Evesham’s favour at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.

Both Levi Steele and Lewis Middleton struck in quick succession to put the Robins ahead before Andre Wright put the home side further in front.

And Middleton scored his second of the game in injury time to book Evesham’s place in the play-off final.

The Robins will take on local rivals Malvern Town in the final after the Hillsiders secured a dramatic 3-2 victory against Bishops Cleeve in extra time in the other semi-final.

However, Evesham will have home advantage in the final by virtue of finishing higher in the league table than Malvern.

Exmouth broke the deadlock moments before the break when Griffin let fly from 30-yards out and found the net via the aid of the post.

However, Evesham drew level on 57 minutes when Steele finished from close range after Frankie Phillips could only parry Wright’s initial shot from distance.

And the Robins completed the turnaround less than a minute later as substitute Middleton drilled a low shot past Phillips at his near post after Exmouth failed to deal with a long throw from the left.

Evesham stretched their lead on 77 minutes when Wright lashed a half-volley beyond Phillips from a tight angle in the box from Jyrel Bojang’s clever flick.

And Middleton sealed the Robins place in the final at the death when he raced through and coolly placed a shot into the bottom right corner from just inside the penalty area.

Evesham host Malvern in the play-off final on Monday, May 5 with kick-off at 3pm at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.
