EVESHAM Town Council has announced a programme of events to mark the 80th anniversary of VE day in May.
Celebrations will start on Thursday, May 8 with a Royal British Legion service at the war memorial in Abbey Park followed by a proclamation in Market Square at 11.30am.
At the town hall from 12 noon to 3pm members of the public are invited to see a wartime display of memories along with tea and cake.
This will be followed by an afternoon piano singalong at Wallace House Community Centre and refreshments from 2pm to 6pm.
Later on in the month on Saturday, May 24 at The Almonry Museum there will be a garden party and wartime vehicle display.
May will finish off in style with the first of the season’s popular outdoor concerts at the bandstand in Abbey Park on Sunday, May 25 featuring the Derek Bruce/Wells Swing Band.
The entertainment starts at 1.30pm with special guest singers and there is the promise of a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at some point during the afternoon.
There will also be military vehicles on display, dancing and food and drink to purchase.
As part of the celebrations the town council is holding a shopfront and household decoration competition and wants people to dress up their properties in patriotic VE Day-themed attire.
