Darling ducklings find new home at rescue centre

A PAIR of young mallard ducklings have been rescued from a garden in Cirencester and brought into the care of the Vale Wildlife Hospital.

The photogenic siblings were brought in on Monday (April 7) after being found alone in a domestic garden. Sadly, an adult female was found deceased close by, which was assumed to be their mum.

These are the first of many ducklings the rescue centre at Beckford gets brought in to them annually. They will stay there for several weeks until they are old enough to survive on their own.

These mallard ducklings are being looked after by staff at the Vale Wildlife Trust in Beckford. s

“They will progress from our brooder room with a heat lamp to our outdoor area but be shut inside at night, then will eventually move onto our pools, before being released,” said manager Natalie Gould.

“Annually, we receive between 150 and 200 ducklings, so it gets very busy – and noisy”, she added.

When ready to stand on their own two (webbed) feet the lucky ducky’s will be released onto a private pool belonging to one of the hospital’s supporters.
