Come rain or shine the Anti-litter Evesham army regularly takes to the streets in their mission to tidy up the town.
Last Sunday was no exception as despite the inclement weather, 59 willing volunteers (and two dogs) armed with litter pickers and bin bags worked their magic removing masses of discarded cans, bottles and assorted rubbish around the town centre.
Organiser and chief womble Laura Van Toller said she was extremely thankful to everyone who gave up their Sunday morning to support the campaign.
She told the Observer that considering it was raining, everyone was in good spirits and the community spirit was tangible.

Volunteers did not let wet weather dampen their enthusiasm.
“There were a ridiculous amount of cigarette butts on the pavements and in shop entrances with broken glass on Bridge Street and along High Street.
She said that certain areas of Evesham were worse than expected, especially the Oat Street Car Park by the library which had been resurfaced.
“Unfortunately we still have plenty of litter picking to do in and around Evesham because of the litter louts, we easily picked up several dozen bags of discarded items,” Laura added.
The efforts – part of Keep Britain Tidy’s annual Great British Spring Clean campaign – was supported by a number of town organisations including Evesham Vale WI, Vale of Evesham Civic Society, Evesham Town Council, Evesham Adventure Playground Association, Battle of Evesham and the Droitwich & Evesham Labour Party.
Mick Hurst was one of 11 people from the Battle of Evesham committee who joined in on the day.
“We want everyone to be proud of our town and for the thousands of visitors attracted to our events, to have great memories of Evesham, and not be distracted by any litter.
“It was a great community event, finished off by a welcome free drink in the Red Lion,” he said.

Anyone who would like to join in the next pick on Saturday, May 10 should email Laura via [email protected] or contact the group via its Facebook page facebook.com/antilitterevesham.
