PERSHORE’S MP donned her hard hat last week (for a visit to the town’s in-development retirement complex.
The redevelopment of Almonry Close, a 54-home apartment block for retirees, is making significant progress, with the development expected to be completed in late 2026.
Evesham-based housing association, Rooftop Housing Group are working in partnership with Homes England and Wychavon District Council to transform the site from its outdated former sheltered housing scheme.
Last Friday (February 28) Dame Harriett Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire, visited the site alongside Rooftop Housing Group chief executive Boris Worrall to review the progress.
The site will consist of energy efficient retirement flats for rent and shared ownership, providing much-needed housing for the local community.
Dame Harriett Baldwin commented: “The new housing being built by in the heart of Pershore will be a welcome increase in the number of homes in this wonderful town and it is yet another project being delivered by an excellent social housing provider.”
The redevelopment, being constructed by Worcestershire-based building contractor Speller Metcalfe, prioritises the use of local talent and resources supportiong the regional economy and benefiting the community.
The West Worcestershire MP shared her enthusiasm for seeing local builder Speller Metcalfe behind the projects construction.
Boris Worrall added: “It’s encouraging to see the work in progress. This redevelopment is another testament to Rooftop’s provision of good quality and affordable housing where people can remain in their community.
“I’m confident it will create a sustainable and vibrant community in Pershore.”
Almonry Close will feature one and two-bedroom apartments with communal facilities including a lounge, activities room and green spaces.
As construction progresses, Rooftop Housing Group will continue to provide updates on key milestones for the development.
