VOLUNTEERS from a Worcestershire litter picking group were out in force last weekend on their first pick of the year.
Community-minded citizens from Anti Litter Evesham joined with residents of Charlton to litter pick along Boston Lane on Sunday, January 19.
Armed with gloves and sacks, two hours of toil retrieved an astonishing 19 sacks of assorted rubbish from hedgerows and verges including the remains of a TV.
Group coordinator Laura Van Toller, who calls herself ‘chief womble’ told the Observer: “On Sunday we were shocked by the amount of alcohol glass bottles and cans along a scenic village road. Unfortunately, this amount of litter is normal and includes low level fly tipping.
“We all want our town to be clean so we get motivated by taking action and not just walking past litter or rubbish. It is therapeutic to see the clean up after a good litter pick.”
Set up in 2016 by Bruce Taylor with help from the town and district councils, the group meets once a month for litter picks but some volunteers go out weekly.

Laura welcomes more residents to get involved by looking after their local area. “We’re happy to join them,” she added.
Anyone can help also the group by reporting littering and fly-tipping to the district council via website wychavon.gov.uk/environmental-crime/fly-tipping.
Residents wanting to get involved should email Laura via [email protected] or contact the group via its Facebook page.
