A Christmas Carol is coming to The Henrician this Friday

A NEW stage adaptation of a Christmas Carol is coming to Evesham this Friday.

Following the critically acclaimed productions of Macbeth and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Grove Productions will be presenting a new version of that most beloved piece of Christmas literature by Charles Dickens at The Henrician on December 13 at 7.30pm.

Ebeneezer Scrooge has no time for family, friends or charity as he grows rich and evermore alone. But death stalks the old miser’s steps as the ghost of his former partner warns him of his fate and more ghosts to come.

These haunting apparitions show Scrooge his past, the present reality of his friends and family, and the potential future which holds more death and destruction – all in the name of making him understand the true meaning of Christmas.

Dickens’ classic text has been lovingly adapted for stage and will be brought to life on with acting, song and more. The production will feature the use of a Bunraku puppet, as the ever optimistic symbol of hope that is Tiny Tim.

Popular carols such as Deck the Halls, Carol of the Bells, and Silent Night will also feature.

Paul Avery returns to direct the company with Joy-Amy Wigman taking up the musical reins and lighting and sound by Jacob Gregory.

Moa Myerson, who plays The Narrator explains: “There’s only so much you can get from a play, book or a piece of theatre by reading or watching it in 20 minute sections in a lesson once a week.

“It’s so different being able to see it happening in the same room and feel that energy coming off of the people in front of you.  As storytellers, and as a team, there’s just a really lush energy that is being cultivated within this company. We really care about the stories that we’re telling and who we’re telling them to.”
