Pershore Police thank 'kind-hearted' residents who helped with removal of tree during Storm Bert

POLICE in Pershore have thanked members of the public who offered them and highways officers a helping hand in dealing with a fallen tree during Storm Bert.

Heavy rain and high winds lashed Worcestershire over the weekend, leading to traffic chaos in some areas.

One of the incidents saw police receive reports about a tree falling on the B4084, blocking both lanes and causing disruption to motorists travelling along the road.

Pershore Police Safer Neighbourhood Team attended the location and closed the road whilst awaiting highways attendance.

Officers said, in the meantime, helpful local residents brightened their day by attending with a chainsaw allowing for the prompt removal of the tree.

“This acts as a reminder that the police are the public and the public are the police,” they added.

Officers also reminded residents to take extra care when travelling in stormy conditions because of the increase in surface water, flooding and debris in the road that could lead to difficult driving conditions.
