Warwickshire-based Orchestra of the Swan will be delving into the musical traditions around the winter solstice this December at Pershore’s Number 8.

The concert, Midwinter, promises to be an intriguing tapestry of winter music and words, created between the 12th Century and the present day.

Representing a symbolic dividing line, midwinter is a sacred moment at the year’s end where old gives way to new, despair transforms into hope and darkness becomes light.

Since prehistory, humans have celebrated this transition by participating in rituals, often involving food and drink, dancing and music.

The midwinter solstice represents that elemental moment when the sun is reborn – its significance, still to this day, not lost on humanity.

The concert programme’s musical pendulum swings between the ancient and the contemporary, the religious and the secular, the familiar and the unknown.

Orchestra of the Swan, under the artistic direction of David Le Page strives to captivate audiences through a blend of experimentation with both classical and non-classical music, embracing its role as storyteller.

The commitment to being distinctive drives this innovative chamber orchestra based in Warwick to push creative boundaries, offering performances that are both innovative and unique.

It invites music lovers to join them at Number 8 to participate in this unique seasonal journey which illustrates just how rich and captivating a tradition there is in relation to midwinter.

Midwinter comes to Number 8 on Tuesday, December 3. Tickets are online now and available from number8.org start at £16.
