REGAN Messenger delivered a brace as Evesham United came from behind to beat Bashley 3-2 and move up to third in the table.

Messenger drew the Robins level before later restoring the away side’s lead after Levi Steele’s penalty initially put the visitors ahead in a frantic first half at the Veho Community Stadium.

And the result means Evesham sit third in the Southern League Division One South table.

The Robins made the worst possible start when Luke Delaney lifted the ball over Alex Harris to put Bashley in front after just two minutes.

However, Evesham equalised seven minutes later as Messenger hooked the ball over his shoulder and into the net after Mack Allan could only parry Will Owens’ powerful shot into the scorer’s path.

The visitors almost completed the turnaround as Amer Awadh’s effort went narrowly over the crossbar before Ethan Moran fired inches over the top.

And the Robins did eventually take the lead on 28 minutes when Steele sent Allan the wrong way from the penalty spot after Charlie Wagstaffe handed the ball in the box.

Bashley drew level on 35 minutes as Lewis Ross powered a shot past Harris from Luke Holmes’ pass.

However, United reclaimed the lead less than a minute later when Messenger forced a powerful header beyond Allan with all five goals coming before the break.

Evesham are next in action against Mousehole on Saturday, October 19 with kick-off at 3pm at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.
