RESIDENTS in the vale can come and learn how to save a life at a fundraising event to pay for the upkeep of the town’s defibrillators.

A family fun day is being organised by Evesham Defibrillators on November 2 at Bengeworth Social Club to pay for their annual maintenance which costs £500 per unit.

Additionally, over the next five years, the AEDs will need new batteries and electrode pads.

Special guests will be the training and event medical specialists Cotswold First Aid, who will showcase defibrillators and teach visitors how to perform CPR.

Alongside vital first aid training there are a variety of festive stalls to browse including glitter tattoos, teddy tombola to amuse youngsters and a bottle tombola and in-house raffle for the adults. There will also be a cake sale and refreshments.

Paramedic Kerry Wood set up Evesham Defibrillators in 2021 to install AEDs on people’s homes when she realised it could take 40 minutes to transport patients in cardiac arrest to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

She set up a campaigning group that now has five women in total – Kerry Yeates, Karen Stephens, Donna Atkin, Lynda Williams – and there are now 27 devices on the streets of Evesham thanks to their efforts.

The event on Coronation Street has free admission and runs from 11am to 3pm.

Kerry is appealing for anyone who can spare an hour or so on the day to get in touch via [email protected].
