A COLOURFUL mural painted by an Evesham-based art charity has been moved to a new location.

Garage Art Group which promotes health and wellbeing for Worcestershire residents through the visual arts was originally commissioned to create the artwork by Evesham Abbey Trust in 2020.

After being used to screen a shipping container used in the renovation of Abbey Gardens, the mural which is inspired by various landmarks in the town has now been installed in a permanent position in Abbey Park thanks to Evesham Place Board.

Fitted with a new frame, the creative commission can now be found overlooking the park alongside the all-weather play area and facing its original spot at the abbey.

Elizabeth Phillips, charity facilitator at Garage Art Group, said: “We’re so pleased that that funding has allowed us to showcase our members’ hard work and talent right in the heart of Evesham. Our members went to such great efforts to create it.”

Garage Art Group was founded in 1991 and originally operated from a private garage. It provides creative workshops for all ages and abilities with the support of professional art tutors. These include sessions for adults with additional needs and anyone looking to improve their mental health.

After outgrowing its former home of 25 years in Bridge Street the group moved to its current location at Wallace House Community Centre, Oat Street in August.

Visit Garage Art Group website for more information about the art sessions.
