Festival to celebrate Worcester housing estate's 70th birthday

A HOUSING estate in Worcester is celebrating its 70th birthday with a special community event.

The Dines Green community is marking the landmark occasion with an afternoon of entertainment, food, fundraising and activities for all ages on Saturday September 28.

Dinesfest will be an opportunity for residents to show off their talents and share their stories of the estate, where a development of new homes began seven decades ago in 1954.

Honeywell Primary School will host the event, which has been arranged by residents, schools, groups, and churches within the neighbourhood.

It is being sponsored by Worcester City Council and county councillor Richard Udall.

Coun Udall said: “Dines Green has grown from a few houses built on farmland and market gardens in the fifties to the busy estate that it is now. Some families have been here from the start and are in their third or fourth generation here now, so I’m looking forward to seeing many familiar faces and old friends at Dinesfest.”

Some of Coun Udall’s newer friends are the Festival Flumps, who contacted event organisers to volunteer their services following summer appearances at a number of local events.

And in addition to affordable entertainment including free face painting and inflatables, there will be pony rides, tradestands, food and drink, football, bike stunts and Dines Green’s Got Talent at the event.

Dinesfest takes place at Honeywell Primary School on Saturday September 28 from 1pm until 4.30pm.

It will also be the school’s open afternoon between 1pm and 3pm, when families can visit classrooms and meet the teachers.
