A giant version of the Wychavon District Council’s logo has been created in a field near Evesham to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The 40 by 30m installation depicting a crown was the idea of The Valley shopping and leisure centre and was applied to the grass using a mix of drone technology and hand-held paint sprayer.
It is the third such artwork devised by the retail outlet and follows on from a popular floral motif marking Anglo-Japanese relations in April.
Councillor Mark Goodge, chairman of Wychavon District Council licensing committee, saw it when he visited The Valley to meet with marketing director Phil Maclean and discuss the ongoing partnership between it and Wychavon District Council.
He said: “We are thrilled and proud that The Valley has chosen to celebrate 50 years of our district council by recreating our logo, and it’s even more exciting to think that this is viewable from space.
“The relationship we have with the businesses in the district is very important to us, and I am really proud of the positive difference we have made for the people of Wychavon over the last 50 years, and we look forward to doing it for at least another 50.”
Wychavon was created from the merger of five councils across the Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich areas as part of the 1972 Local Government Act.
Phil Maclean added: “We are delighted to mark this significant milestone by unveiling the giant crown logo of the council. The initiative is all about giving a sense of place and expressing our pride in being part of the district.
“We hope it inspires other businesses and organisations to proudly celebrate the unique charm and community spirit of our region. We look forward to continuing our work together to make Wychavon an even better place to live, work, and visit.”
The local authority area was originally called District Number Nine before the name Wychavon was chosen to reflect the Anglo-Saxon name for Droitwich Spa and the main river that runs through the district.
