Application submitted for 53 new homes in Drakes Broughton

Evesham Editorial 6th Sep, 2024   0

A PLANNING application to demolish two homes and build 53 more in Drakes Broughton has been submitted to Wychavon District Council.

The 4.8 hectare development off Stonebow Road will lead to creation of 53 new homes including one, two, three, four and five bed properties to the north of the Pershore.

Proposals will include 19 new affordable properties comprising of four one-bedroom maisonettes, nine two-bed homes, and six three-bed houses. Access to the site will be off Stonebow Road, just south of Williams Way.

The affordable housing is expected to be split between 75 per cent rented and 25 per cent intermediate ownership.

Intermediate housing is intended to support those not able to afford to rent or buy privately and have little chance of accessing low cost rented properties.

The developers aim to implement green infrastructure for both people and nature within the development. Over 65 per cent of the site will be green open space.

During consultation, positive feedback was received with regard to the development’s open spaces and mixture of housing. However concerns have been raised about Drakes Broughton losing its village feel due to modern housing developments.

Reservations have also been raised about the development’s access via Stonebow Road which is used as a cut through, prompting calls for traffic management implementations. The main access point to the development is a small lane off Stonebow Road.

A loss of biodiversity was also a sticking point, whilst calls have been made for green spaces to include habitat and wildlife enhancements.

Consultation respondents also pointed out local services are already strained without large amounts of new residents moving into the area.

Wychavon District Council planning officers have recommended the application be delegated to the director of planning to grant permission subject to completion of a section 106 agreement.

A section 106 agreement will place legally binding requirements on the developer as outlined by the council’s planning directorate.
