A NEW book chronicling the proud heritage of Evesham from Anglo-Saxon times through to the 21st Century has been written by a keen amateur historian.
Celebrating Evesham, part of a local history series from Amberley Publishing, is the eighth book compiled and written by Stan Brotherton who said it is his most interesting one so far.
Stan is a life-long member of the Vale of Evesham Historical Society and founding trustee of Evesham Abbey Trust.
He has been involved in a range of local heritage projects involving the installation of plaque and interpretation panels and given a range of talks about the town.

He said: “I’m Evesham born and bred and have lived in the town most of my life with the odd years out for college and work.
“I’ve been fascinated by the history of my home town since I was a child.”
Stan added the dedicated research for this latest book took about 12 months, with work starting in September 2022 and the completed manuscript sent to the publishers a year later. It was released earlier this month.
“My motivation is pretty simple. Firstly, the publishers kindly asked if I’d like to write another local history book and I was very happy to say ‘yes’.
“Second, the history of Evesham is complex, rich, varied and interesting – it’s a pleasure to share what I know with a wider audience.”
The 96-page book chronicles the town’s many important moments and what draws so many there today.
It is illustrated throughout and offers a fascinating and positive insight into Evesham’s rich heritage, its special events, people, industry and important moments.
Celebrating Evesham costs £15.99 and is available in Kindle and iBook formats and paperback from Amberley Publishing or good bookshops. ISBN: 9781398117976.
