AN 18-year-old animal management student has been named student of the year at Pershore College for a second successive year.

Hope Andrews recently completed the final year of her level 3 animal management course.

She was also named animal welfare student of the year during the annual awards ceremony.

Hope, from Bromsgrove, completed all assignments to distinction level and recently impressed Ofsted inspectors during a recent inspection with one referring to her standard of her work being the quality of a future PHD student.

She has received a conditional offer at Harper Adams University to study animal behaviour and welfare.

Hope said: “It’s definitely something I wasn’t expecting, especially after winning last year, so it’s really nice to be a winner again.

“The final year has been really interesting and I’ve really loved all of the assignments around exotic animals. An Ofsted inspector spoke to me about my guinea pig assignment, the feedback was really nice to hear.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my studies and continuing to develop, so something like zookeeping or working with reptiles is my long-term plan.”

Becky Brannigan, head of department for animal welfare, veterinary nursing and sport, said: “Hope fully deserves to be recognised for her hard work and is a deserving recipient of the subject award and overall award.”

Josh Egan-Wyer, head of horticulture and interim centre manager, added: “We had a fantastic evening celebrating the successes of all the students over this academic year.

“We would like to congratulate Hope on winning this year’s award for the second year in a row.

“She is a brilliant ambassador for our college and will be missed but we look forward to following her next steps.”
