PERSHORE Rugby’s 15-a-side Phoenix women’s team secured a convincing 43-12 seven-try victory against Cheltenham North.
Captain Samantha Smedley and winger Laura Kelly crossed for two tries apiece with Mollie Dale, Nicola Hope and Sally Jakeman also touching down at Piddle Park.
Pershore skipper Smedley scored the game’s first try, converted by Jakeman, before Cheltenham responded with a try of their own 20 minutes later.
However, scrum-half Dale sniped over the line to extend Pershore’s lead before Kelly crossed for her first try of the match with the latter score converted by Jakeman.
Pershore’s forwards, Thalia Hopkins, Hope, Lauren Brookhouse and Amy Lane, produced some big carries in the second half which allowed fly-half Evie Woodfield to dictate the game.
And Smedley scored her second try of the game to put Pershore in command before Hope touched down to all but seal the points.
Cheltenham eventually crossed for their second try as the half wore on before Jakemen scored and converted her own try and then added the extras to Kelly’s second try in the final few minutes.
Pershore Phoenix are next in action away at Cheltenham Civil Service on Sunday, November 19.
