CARING Evesham residents have been thanked for their efforts in boosting the Oxfam Ukraine appeal.

The shop on Evesham High Street has been inundated with cash and clothing donations, all of which will start being delivered next week.

In just two days, the store received more than 50 bags and nearly £500 for this vital cause.

A further half price clothing sale in the store is being held to boost the funds for the appeal to help those fleeing war-torn Ukraine.

Evesham’s MP Nigel Huddleston was among those to visit the shop and met manager Lindsey Lavender and Lorna Fallon, director of retail at Oxfam GB. Robin Osterley, CEO of the Charity Retail Association also attended.

He was shown how the donation process works including gift aid – an initiative where tax payers can donate goods and get tax relief, with the charity shop gaining an extra 25p in the pound for every donated item sold – plus discounts passed on to the customers.

The Mid Worcestershire MP pledged to sign up to Gift Aid and sort out his family’s possessions to donate to the shop. He also bought some pre loved books

“It was a pleasure to visit Oxfam Evesham, meet customers, volunteers and staff alike. To know that Oxfam charity shops, since 1947, have been doing such a great job with its sustainability range of goods as well as its support to local and global causes, is fantastic,” he said.
