Sophie's sixth cut will back brave Badsey boy

A CARING Evesham teenager who has only ever had five haircuts in her life will lose more than a foot of her luscious locks in support of a brave Badsey boy.

Sophie George, 14, will face the chop the Lykke and Hygge on Vine Street early next month to raise funds for nine-year-old Josh Asbury and his family.

Both Sophie and Josh take to the field for Badsey Rangers’ various youth teams and the caring teen was inspired to act after hearing of Josh’s battle with T-cell lymphoblastic leukaemia lymphoma.

The Observer reported in December on how the little fighter made the heart-breaking journey from Covid to cancer in just three months.

After testing positive for Covid last September, Josh didn’t return to normal and in November he was diagnosed with the illness. A fund-raiser to give the family a trip of a lifetime has already seen a staggering £15,000 raised.

Supported by his devoted mum and dad Heather and Andy, Josh has now begun chemotherapy and was on hand to meet his Sophie earlier this month.

Generous Sophie, who stars for Rangers under 14s, revealed she would lose a staggering 18 inches of hair in the cut by Libby Naylor from the salon. She’s being supported in her fund-raising quest by mum Fiona, organiser of Evesham’s annual Poppy Appeal

“The hair will be donated to The Little Princess Trust who give hair and hope to young people with cancer, whilst all the money raised will go to the existing fund-raiser,” Sophie said.

The pair came face to face earlier this month and Sophie added: “What a lovely time we had meeting this very brave and witty character.

“Josh you are awesome. I hope we can raise loads of money so that you can fulfil all your dreams and wishes.

“You’ve got this young man, keep strong and go Josh,” she added.
