Could you lend a hand to help the Sunbeams?

Evesham Editorial 3rd Dec, 2021   0

A BID to ensure a much-loved Evesham playgroup can flourish into its 25th anniversary and beyond has been launched.

Sunbeams of Evesham has been meeting for almost 25 years, regularly once a week, on a Tuesday morning, providing activities and fellowship for children and parents.

With soft play area, crafts, games and refreshments as well as some singing and feeding the ducks on the river, Sunbeams at Evesham Methodist Church has proved an outstanding success for a generation of pre-school youngsters.

And it is still proving to be hugely attractive and popular although inevitably some helpers and leaders move on as their children grow older or the leaders themselves approach retirement.

As a result, the search is on for anyone keen or interested to look in on the group, offer to help or even consider leading the group with some guidance, checks and some training.

Sunbeams meets every Tuesday morning, from 9.30am to 11am in the lower rooms of Evesham Methodist Church so anybody with children or grandchildren who might be willing to look in is welcome.

There is a charge of £2 per family per session. Other than that, Sunbeams operates as a voluntary group.

Helpers tend to get involved with setting out soft mats and toys, helping parents and children through the morning, perhaps with tea or coffee and supervising games or crafts. And of course feeding the ducks who come near the church on the river.

The leader of Sunbeams – also an opportunity open for interested ‘parents’ or others to apply is responsible for the organisation of the group and helpers, some of the finance, programming for each term, giving out birthday cards – and almost certainly a multitude of other things which makes Sunbeams the successful group it has been for many years.

Anybody with pre-school children who would like to look in on Sunbeams and maybe help your own child to socialise and enjoy one half-day a week doing activities and games with others is welcome
