A PLEDGE to ‘bring businesses back to Evesham’ has been offered by a former district councillor bidding to secure a county council seat in May’s elections.
Matt Snape revealed his bold vision and challenged local politicians to be ‘more ambitious’ about Evesham and its history.
He represented Evesham South on Wychavon District Council from 2017 to 2019 and was lined up as the Conservative candidate for May’s county elections before he was axed in a row over social media posts.
Undeterred, Mr Snape has now revealed his bid to win the Reform Party’s first county council seat in Worcestershire in the poll on May 6.
“Since the 2008 recession, I have slowly witnessed this town’s shops vanish. There have been some new restaurants and cafes added since then, but our local politicians need to be more ambitious about this town and its history, culture, and traditions,” he said.
“Evesham needs a fresh set of politicians, and as a Reform Party candidate I have the freedom to outline my own ambitious solutions for this town.”
His blueprint for business includes making Mill Street a two-way road again to ease congestion and working with Wychavon District Council to introduce free parking on a permanent basis.
Working with the police and residents to create more Neighbourhood Watch and WhatsApp groups to make Evesham South’s streets feel safer and speed cameras in Fairfield Road are also among his priorities if elected.
Since the Reform Party candidate announced his bid to run for this year’s Worcestershire County Council elections on social media, Mr Snape claims he has been contacted about other issues.
“It is clear voters believe there is so much more that needs to be done to tackle Evesham’s problems, and for too long both the Tories and the Greens have failed to deal with them.” he said.
“If I am elected as a county councillor, I have four years to change a lot of things. If I fail to achieve my initial campaign aims, then I urge Evesham South’s voters to remove me from office in 2025. But Evesham needs fresh answers to long-standing problems.
“My door is always open. Voters can contact me on social media, and I hope that I can work with people across Evesham South to deliver the solutions that they also want.”
