Council chief welcomes Government cash boost

Evesham Editorial 30th Oct, 2020   0

COUNCIL chiefs have welcomed a Government cash injection of almost £250,000 to help them continue to provide services during the pandemic.

Wychavon District Council will benefit from an extra £246,139 in funding announced by the Government, taking the total handed to the authority since the COVID-19 outbreak began to £1.7million.

The funding has not been ring-fenced, meaning local leaders will be able to determine how to spend the additional funding in order to best protect public health, local vulnerable people and the running of vital services.

Wychavon also stands to benefit from a share of a further £100 million which will be used to establish a new fund to support council leisure centres that are most in need, in recognition of the ongoing challenges many local authority leisure centres are facing.

Coun Bradley Thomas, leader of Wychavon District Council, welcomed the cash boost.

“The £246,139 is hugely welcome and will ease financial pressures on Wychavon and ensure it is able to continue providing vital local services this winter.

“This extra funding from the Government has enabled us to support our community through these incredibly tough times.”
