Church chiefs show support for Black Lives Matter

Evesham Editorial 17th Jun, 2020   0

A SHOW of support for the Black Lives Matter has appeared outside Evesham Methodist Church as church chiefs showed solidarity with the movement.

Protests have been seen in the USA and across the globe, including in the UK where in Bristol where a statue of slave trader Edward Colston was torn down and dumped in the docks by irate protestors.

The protests were sparked by the death of Mr Floyd during his arrest on May 25.

A post-mortem concluded Floyd’s heart stopped as cops restrained him and compressed his neck for nearly nine minutes. All four officers involved have since been charged with second-degree murder.

Speaking after the banner was put up, Rev David Haslam, associate minister at Evesham Methodist Church, said: “We recognise of course all lives matter, but at this point in time we need to emphasise the differences in life quality and expectancy in BAME communities, especially just now in our health and social care services.”
