Homebuilders’ boss vows to sort issues

A PLEDGE to investigate the ‘catalogue of issues’ caused by controversial housebuilder Persimmon Homes has been welcomed by Pershore MP Harriett Baldwin.

Among the issues in new Persimmon chief executive David Jenkinson’s in-tray is the long running saga over the Station Road development which has seen fed-up motorists face months of delays as new traffic lights are installed outside the new development.

Mrs Baldwin was at the centre of a war of words last year with both Persimmon and Worcestershire County Council blaming each other for the delays in completing the work on a new junction for traffic leaving the development onto the busy Station Road.

The MP has written to Mr Jenkinson outlining a series of complaints from constituents surrounding housing developments in Pershore.

Although she welcomed the appointment of a new boss for the controversial housebuilder, Mrs Baldwin said the response from the company over the last four years had been ‘historically disappointing’.

“When the new chief executive contacted me following his appointment earlier this year, I wrote and highlighted some of the major reputational issues that his company has in my constituency, and I was pleased that he has agreed to personally intervene,” she said.

“Of course, deeds are more important than words, and although the Station Road saga nears the end, Malvern Vales drains and roads still have outstanding complaints.

“I welcome David Jenkinson’s personal pledge and hope he will ensure that the company becomes a more responsible and more responsive housebuilder on present and future large housing developments,” she added.
