Stride out for first Walking Festival

Evesham Editorial 23rd Jun, 2019   0

EVESHAM’S first Walking Festival next month will celebrate the majesty of the Worcestershire countryside.

Evesham Rambling Club is running the festival in partnership with Worcestershire County Council, Evesham Town Council and Worcestershire’s Vale and Spa.

A week-long programme in the first week of July features 15 walks and will take walkers around the Vale of Evesham, Cotswold Edge and the surrounding areas, exploring some of the best countryside in Worcestershire.

Alan Saunders, from Evesham Rambling Club, said: “We’ve put a lot of thought into the week’s programme with many walks having a theme and some featuring talks or activities.

“We’ve been working hard to ensure the Public Rights of Way included in the festival are maintained in the run up to the festival, and have graded each walk by ‘easy’ or ‘moderate’ so anyone can join in, no matter their ability.”

Coun John Smith, cabinet member for health and wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council said: “We know that walking improves both physical and mental health and we encourage people who are able to, to walk briskly for at least ten minutes a day.

“Walking festivals such as these are a great way to improve health, meet like-minded people and visit some of the amazing walking routes in Worcestershire.”

All walks are free but donations to Evesham Rambling Club are welcome.
