Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 24th Feb, 2019   0

LAST Saturday afternoon, two friends and myself, watched an ex-LNER A4 pacific steam locomotive, ‘Union of South Africa’ as it climbed the steep bank between Honeybourne station and the Chipping Campden tunnel on the railway line to Oxford.

On its journey from Paddington to Worcester and return, there would have been thousands of people watching from the numerous vantage points along the route.

Since the end of steam on Britain’s railways, in the mid 1960s, enthusiasts all over the country have saved almost 150 engines from the scrap yard. These engines are a testament to our engineering heritage and are running on our heritage railway lines, having been restored by hundreds of people, many being volunteers.

We have a great heritage in this country with many fantastic inventions, manufactured items and buildings which stand as testament to the skill and initiative of our ancestors.

The words of the Bible have been the guiding light for many of these inventors, designers, architects, and entrepreneurs enabling them to leave us with such a wonderful history.

The Bible is full of the love, joy and peace of God that can be experienced by each of us in our daily lives.

Jesus Christ came to bring us the reality of that, and today as we ask him to be our Saviour and Lord we too can experience his guiding and leading throughout our lives to the betterment of our communities.
