Cropthorne-based Action on Poverty gains public backing from Prime Minister

CROPTHORNE-based charity Action on Poverty has received some public backing from Prime Minister Theresa May who has followed the organisation and tweeted her support of its work.

Mrs May commended their efforts in ‘helping the poorest and most vulnerable in the World improve their lives, believing where you start in life shouldn’t dictate where you finish’.

The charity is committed to aiding sustainable development in the poorest regions around the World, carrying out most of its work in Africa.

Recent projects have also included a push for fair trade goods that ensures the growers of bananas eaten in Europe receive a fair price for their work and an apprenticeship programme to develop the skills base in poor rural communities.

Action on Poverty’s Chief Executive Alex Daniels said: “Many people locally are surprised to learn of a Worcestershire charity reaching out internationally to many other communities and thousands of families.

“We are proud of this impact and we greatly appreciate the recognition given.”

The praise came after the work being done by Action on Poverty was raised by Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston.

Mr Huddleston said he was proud to have the charity in his constituency.

“Their efforts and the good that they have done in some of the world’s poorest communities deserve the recognition that the Prime Minister has given them.

“I would encourage anybody in local communities around Cropthorne who have a passion for the global fight against poverty and inequality to consider Action on Poverty as a worthy charity for their support.”
