Something to Think About

YOU could tell by the look on their face….

On last Sunday’s BBC Countryfile we were told that through a new procedure, farmers will soon be able to tell if their animals are healthy or feeling under the weather. Viewers were shown a photograph of Adam Henson’s sheep, with some of them looking as if they were smiling whilst others did not look so happy.

Very often people can tell how we are feeling just by the look on our faces, either being happy, sad or in pain.

In a recent ‘kindness survey’, one of the top ten things was ‘receiving a smile from a stranger’, which is easy to do because we use less muscles to smile than we do to frown.

In the Christian church, this is the period of Lent, leading up to Easter and in the Gospels we are told that, “Jesus Christ set his face towards Jerusalem”.

He knew that he faced a false trial and would be crucified on a cross, not for his own wrongdoing, but for ours.

The possibility of the agony of the beatings that he would endure from the Roman soldiers and the brutal death of being nailed to a cross must have shown on his face, because his disciples tried to persuade him not to go to Jerusalem.

Jesus allowed himself to be treated in this way in order that he could show us the love of God and that we could each know the wonderful salvation that brings.
