Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 21st Jan, 2018   0

FIFTY years ago, my wife and I purchased our first property, a new bungalow.

When it came to the time for the plastering to be done, the builder told us we could not go into the building to do any measuring up for at least eight weeks while the walls dried out sufficiently.

In our village there are so many new houses being built and to me it seems that from the time the foundations are put in to when the removal van arrives with the furniture, is only about six or seven weeks.

Is there something about modern plastering that is different today or are we building too quickly?

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ told the story of two men who both built a new house.

The one built his house well with foundations deep down in the rock, the other built on sand.

When the storms and winds came, the house on solid ground stood firm but the one built on the sand collapsed and crumbled and was destroyed.

Jesus told this story to emphasise the fact that all who listen to his words and put them into practise are like the wise man who built his house to last.

Are we building our lives on the rock Christ Jesus or are we on the shifting sand of the world’s philosophies and dogmas?
