TEACHERS and pupils at Offenham CE First School are celebrating after a leading homebuilder began work on the school’s sensory garden.
Mark Perry, site manager at David Wilson Homes’ Chestnut Grange development in Offenham, and his team of staff recently started work on the Myatt Road school’s sensory garden. It will provide a space for its pupils to enjoy, with features to stimulate all five senses.
Jayne Nicol, headteacher at the school, said: “We’re so grateful for the help we received from Mark and his team.
“They transformed a very overgrown ugly space into a blank canvas; the beginnings of a journey to achieve our vision for a ‘Taste, Touch and See Garden’.
“We have plans to create a space that allows our children to connect with nature and to continue the rich tradition of market gardening within our local community. We plan to plant a small orchard, four designated ‘growing’ areas to allow all of our children to become ‘growers’ and spaces to sit and enjoy nature.”
Steve Barton, senior sales manager at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “It was a pleasure to donate our time to Offenham CE First School and help them start their sensory garden by clearing the site.”
