Use MIUs for minor injuries, health chiefs urge

SPRAINS, strains, wound infections, minor burns and scalds and broken bones can all be seen in the county’s minor injury units.

With A&E departments experience high demand, residents are being reminded only emergency or life threatening conditions should be seen in the emergency departments.

Minor injuries should instead be treated in a minor injury unit where the average waiting times are typically around 20mins.

Evesham’s minor injury unit on Waterside is open from 9am to 9pm seven days a week.

Staffed by trained nurses who have knowledge and skills to deal with a range of minor injuries, minor injury units can offer treatement quickly.

A Worcestershire Health and Care Trust spokesman said: “Often people wait hours in A&E with a minor injury which could have been treated at one of our minor injury units.

“With pressure on emergency departments, we are urging people to really think about what the most appropriate options are.

MIUs do not treat colds, coughs, urine, chest or ear infections.

For these ailments you should contact your local pharmacy, GP or call NHS 111 for advice.
