AROUND 60 school leavers, including some from De Montfort School in Evesham and Pershore High School, attended Worcestershire County Council’s event for the Looking Ahead Programme to help them with employability.

The course consisted of three days at the University of Worcester’s Lakeside campus with talks from employees and colleagues from companies closely associated with the university.

The sessions were designed to help the teenagers, aged between 14 and 16-years-old, to see the opportunities and aspirations which could be fulfilled at university.

The teenagers were part of Worcestershire County Council’s Looked After Children, pupils who need help to guide them through the transition at the end of year 11.

Robert Delahay, manager of Outdoor Activity and Sport at the University of Worcester, said: “After the talks the young people were given the opportunity to take part in an array of outdoor education activities including canoeing, bush craft and team building in the hopes of raising their self-esteem, confidence and resilience.”
