Evesham Rotarians’ auction digs deep for Rory the Robot campaign

CARING members of the Rotary Club of Evesham dug deep at a charity auction and raised more than £6,000 in aid of the Rory the Robot appeal.

More than 100 guests were on hand for the event at The Beckford Inn to bid for items donated by local businesses and individual Rotary members.

Items under the hammer ranged from a stay in an apartment in Spain to the use of a Morgan car for a day.

Many items were also raffled and auctioneer Richard Williams did a great job of coercing money from all those present.

Although the final figure is yet to be finalised, more than £6,000 was raised on the night for the appeal to fund a new robotic surgical system for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Robotic assisted surgery for prostate cancer is a keyhole procedure to remove the prostate gland using a state-of-the-art da Vinci system.

The robotic equipment enables a more precise procedure to treat patients with prostate cancer.

However the system has the potential to be utilised by other surgical teams in the future for both sexes.

After the auction Rotarians and guests enjoyed a wonderful evening dancing to UpStream.
