THE future of Evesham Community Contact Centre is yet to be decided and ‘all options’ will be looked at, West Mercia’s Police and Crime Commissioner has said.
John Campion has spoken to the Observer after it was revealed last week Wychavon District and Evesham Town Councils will be vacating the Abbey Road building next March.
Council chiefs said they are ending their lease after 14 years due to the building being too big for its needs. The two councils are moving to the library on Oat Street after being approached by Worcestershire County Council.
Currently the Job Centre will remain at the Abbey Road building, but it’s not yet known what will be done with the rest of the site which is set to lie empty with the departures of Wychavon and the Town Council.
The building is owned by West Mercia Police and as the force’s commissioner Mr Campion will make the final decision on what will be done with the building.
Speaking to the Observer, Mr Campion said: “The police are in discussions with the Department for Work and Pensions around keeping the Job Centre at its current location and I hope those discussions can lead to a positive outcome for all parties.
“Beyond that, it is too early to say how the rest of the building will be used after being vacated by the council. All the options will be looked at in the days and weeks to come.”
