THE sighting of a young boy running alone on an Evesham road yesterday evening prompted concerned calls to the police.

West Mercia Police have since moved to end speculation on social media of a ‘missing’ boy by confirming no report of a missing child was made.

It follows a report officers received at 7.40pm of a boy running on Albert Road.

Police then carried out an extensive door-to-door search and even deployed a helicopter to find the boy.

However, the search was brought to an end after no boy was found. West Mercia Police said they believe the initial call to them was made in ‘good faith.’

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “West Mercia Police received a report at around 7:40pm yesterday (Sunday 25 June), of a young boy who was seen running on Albert Road, Evesham.

“After an extensive local door to door and helicopter search, police stood down after no boy was found.

“It is believed that the call was received in good faith.”
