MORRIS dancing, traditional folk music and classic cars will be on the menu for the official launch for this year’s British Asparagus Festival.

Vale residents are expected to flock to the The Fleece Inn in Bretforton on Sunday (April 23) as the festival, which regularly brings in more than £1million into the local economy, gets under way.

To celebrate, the Vale of Evesham will be hosting its quintessentially British festivities at The Fleece Inn, Bretforton – the National Trust’s only pub- from 11am to 3pm.

The first-cut round of asparagus, provided by Birlingham Nurseries, will be honoured with an asparagus feast and morris dancing, together with songs and poems lauding the beloved vegetable. There’ll also be a fancy-dress competition and a classic car display.

At 1pm, people will then participate in an asparagus-themed treasure hunt, which will end at Worcester Cathedral where a service of blessing will be held for the asparagus at 4pm.

Anyone interested in taking part in the treasure hunt should book a place in advance by emailing [email protected]
