IN-FORM Jamie Clarke struck twice to help Pershore Town to an impressive 3-2 victory over second placed Leicester Road in Midland League Division One on Saturday.
Quentin Townsend’s Pershore have now lost just once in their last eight matches and sit five points and four places above the relegation zone.
The hosts started brightly as Steven Roche headed into the keeper’s arms and Reece Jacobs also tested Leicester’s keeper with a right-footed shot.
However, it was the visitors who opened the scoring after nine minutes when Josh Unsworth reacted quickest to a through ball into the penalty area to finish past Shaun Edwards.
Town deservedly equalised after 14 minutes when Edwards threaded a ball through for Jacobs who crossed from inside the box for Clarke to head home.
Town took the lead after 54 minutes when Clarke fed the ball to Ben Lane who took a touch into the box and fired his left-footed shot across the keeper into the far corner.
It was 2-2 though within a minute as Thomas McGlinchey netted for the visitors.
However, Pershore were not to be denied and the winner arrived with 12 minutes remaining when Roche was upended in the penalty area and Clarke put away the penalty.
Town will aim to maintain their momentum when they visit mid-table local rivals Littleton on Saturday.
