Safe Places scheme launched in Pershore to help town's most vulnerable

Evesham Editorial 25th Feb, 2017   0

A SCHEME which provides emergency safe places for vulnerable people has been launched in Pershore.

The Safe Places scheme will provide locations across the town where vulnerable people can visit to get reassurance or support.

All venues will have a Safe Place sticker displayed and will have trained staff members able to give reassurance and also help people contact other appropriate support.

People with particular support needs are also able to access a brand new mobile phone app which indicates the nearest location where support can be found.

The scheme, which is backed by West Mercia Police, Wychavon District Council and local traders already runs in towns across Worcestershire, including Evesham.

Pershore’s MP Harriett Baldwin, who was at the launch of the scheme, said: “I have seen the Safe Place scheme in operation in other towns and know that it is an important initiative for those who feel nervous or vulnerable from time to time.

“I was particularly impressed with the mobile phone application which helps people find the nearest safe location and I encourage as many traders as possible to get involved to make Pershore as safe as it can possibly be.”
