BRETFORTON Old Boys took a step closer to retaining their Division One title in the Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League after a 3-1 home win against Pinvin United.
It means Bretforton move three points clear of Evesham WMC on a day when third-placed Broadway United’s challenge was all but end by defeat at Inkberrow.
Pinvin goalkeeper Dan Haward was outstanding against the leaders but Davis (2) and Clarke found the net for Old Boys. Haynes netted a consolation goal for Pinvin.
Title rivals Broadway took the interval lead at Inkberrow through Aspey but the hosts hit back to win 2-1 with Alcock netting twice to take the points.
Mickleton Rangers also struck first in their match at Evesham WMC, only to lose 3-1.
Chris Mills struck in the first half, but Penfold, Grady and Scrivens netted in WMC’s fight back.
Tewkesbury Town boosted their fight to beat the drop with Tarling (2), Butler and Keen sealing a 4-3 victory at home to Stour Excelsior. Cole, Layton and Carr replied for Stour.
Evesham United Sunday have had an inconsistent season in Division Three but they hit form in a 4-0 home win against Avon Titans, thanks to goals from Daw (2), Hinks and Dipple.
Improving TDMS had a 1-0 victory at Ambi Allsports, with a second-half Gallot goal the clincher, while Stratford United and Ashton 88 played out a goalless draw.
Fortis’ promotion hopes were dented with a 4-0 defeat at Stour Excelsior Res.
The Shipston scorers were Hunt, Smith, Shurmer and Gregg.
In Division Two, Sun Inn got back to winning ways with a 3-1 success at bottom club Dragons.
The Winchcombe side scored through Moore, Wood and Gill, with Danby replying.
Harvington swept aside Bredon 5-0 with goals from Philpot, Cother, Davis, Quirke and Wallace, while Badsey Recreation took the points in a 3-2 win at Cropthorne.
Bishop (2) and Banning netted for the winners, with Taylor and Boother bagging the hosts’ goals.
Both Charlton Old Boys, away to Alderton, and Quinton, away to New Inn Pershore, cancelled their fixtures because they could not raise a team.
Broadway United Reserves reached their second Internal Cup semi-final, after goals from Steele and Sutton sealed a 2-1 win against Bretforton OB Reserves in the Evesham Mechanical Services KO Cup. Jennings replied for Old Boys.
