90 years of scouting in Hampton celebrated

Evesham Editorial 23rd Oct, 2016   0

MEMBERS of a Vale scout group held a celebratory service to mark 90 years of scouting in Hampton.

The 1st Evesham 1st Hampton Scout Group recently celebrated the milestone at their base on Station Road, through a display of historic scout items, photos and videos, as well as a large birthday cake, which was shared by the group’s beavers, cubs, scouts, adult volunteers and parents.

Scouting started nationally in 1907 and in Hampton in 1919 and despite both the ‘Cub Pack’ and the ‘Scout Troop’ being cancelled with the Scout Association just two years later in 1921, the Scout Group was re-started in 1928 and has been thriving ever since.

During the celebrations, Mitchell Banks was awarded the ‘Silver Chief Scout Award’, which is the highest award for cub scouts and former Hampton scout Andrew Uncles received the ‘Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award’ badge.

The gold certificate will be presented in a special ceremony at St James’ Palace at a later date.
