Revised Boat Lane homes plan delayed again

Evesham Editorial 6th Oct, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A DECISION on controversial plans for hundreds of homes in the heart of Evesham won’t be made until November- more than a year after the application was first submitted.

Housing developer Hallam Land Management submitted plans for up to 380 homes on land off Boat Lane last September and a decision was due to be made by the end of last year.

But after the South Worcestershire Development Plan was passed in February, which states that only 200 homes can be built there, Hallam have been drawing up revised plans, resulting in a decision on the application being pushed back five times.

A fifth extension of time agreement was signed by Wychavon District Council and Hallam last week- meaning a decision now won’t be made until November 18.

However, that looks set to be the last extension of time agreement in this long-running saga after Hallam confirmed to the Observer they will be submitting their revised plans next month.

The Vale of Evesham Civic Society, who oppose the plans, called on planning chiefs to delay a decision until an assessment of traffic is completed and assessed.

“It should be noted that since the application was lodged last year, traffic conditions in Evesham have continued to deteriorate with queues and delay through the town centre a daily occurrence,” they said.

“It is only then that the true influence of these large developments can be ascertained and a decision made on whether they should be allowed to go ahead.”
