THE SIGHTS and sounds of Rio were brought to Evesham last Sunday (July 3) as thousands of residents flocked to this year’s Port Street Fayre.
Following the great success of last year’s event, the fayre returned bigger and better than ever as the sun shone on the Rio extravaganza which was organised by Deborah Rolls (Chair of VECTA), Kim Dunn (Real Life Promotions) and Betsy Harmony (Local Vintage Singer).
The crowds were entertained by the fire performers, Samba bands, exotic animals, street entertainers and the Ferris Wheel at the top of Port Street which provided spectacular views of the event and the town in the bright summer sunshine.
The event also linked up with the Rotary Club of Evesham’s Bridge the Gap, with the RUclimbing wall in Workman Gardens as well as a stand up paddle-boarding on the River Avon.
Attractions and stalls lined the street as businesses raised funds for their own charities and organisations.
There were two music stages at this year’s fayre, with ‘vintage singer’ Betsy Harmony performing outside the Angel Vaults and 15 English Pounds headlining the stage at the Swan Inn.
The annual event was organised by volunteers who gave up their free time to help make the fayre a success.
Wychavon District and Evesham Town Councils supported the event, along with VECTA.
Event organiser Kim Dunn, said: “A huge thank you to all the team who helped on the day – it does take quite a bit of work to pull these things off, but when I see everyone enjoying it on day, and the individual charities, stalls and businesses making money, it makes it all worthwhile.”
