TEENAGER Sam Lucas will be handed his chance to impress in Evesham United’s pre-season.

The 16-year-old, a midfielder who was with the Robins under 18s, has caught the eye of manager Paul Collicutt in training and will be included in the squad which kicks off their warm-up games tonight (Thursday) at home to Forest Green Rovers.

He is also set to have a bigger role tomorrow night (Friday) when the Robins make the short trip to Pershore Town.

“Sam is only 16 but he had been involved in all three training sessions so far and he has done well,” said Collicutt. “He has earned his chance to show what he can do.”

Evesham’s preparations have not been perfect so far with Matt Sysum, Linden Dovey and Lewis Binns having to miss a few sessions.

Sysum has been recovering after being left bruised by falling off a roof, while illness has meant Dovey and Binns have been absent.

Dovey, however, is among the latest group of players to re-sign at the Jubilee Stadium.

Keeper Kevin Sawyer, Will Welland and Jake Sloggett have confirmed their futures with the Robins.
