EVESHAM U17s were victorious in their final game in North Midlands League Two to be crowned champions.
The 30-10 win against a big Bromsgrove side was a fine end to the campaign for Evesham, who arrived at Bromsgrove with a depleted squad.
The visitors travelled with just 15 players due to injuries and other commitments, but they showed plenty of character against a Bromsgrove team which had scored 151 points in their previous four matches, restricting them to ten points which highlighted the defensive cohesion in the team.
Two tries in the first half and a third in the second by the irrepressible George Guy sealed Bromsgrove’s fate.
Evesham were up against a large and mobile Bromsgrove pack but, thanks to strong tackling by Connor Armento, Ashley Allchurch and man of the match Finley Breach, they managed to keep them out for most of the first half.
For large parts of the second half Bromsgrove were pinned in their own half by a combination of forward pressure and good tactical kicking by James Thompson and Glen Harvey at number nine, who also had his opposite number under pressure all day to create opportunities for Evesham.
This pressure resulted in Tom Mullen and Armento going over for tries four and five to seal a great win for Evesham, whose next match is a cup game at Lichfield on February 28.
