MP lends hand with foodbank collections

EVESHAM’S MP dropped in to a Vale store to lend a hand with the town’s foodbank collections.

The Mid Worcestershire MP visited Tesco last Friday (December 4), where he teamed up with Caring Hands in the Vale manager, Diane Bennett, to collect food produce for their foodbank.

44 trays of produce were donated in the Worcester Road store’s last foodbank collection in July, which also has a popular drop-off tray where customers can buy and drop dry and canned goods.

Mr Huddleston browsed the aisles picking up soups, biscuits and potatoes, to go towards the town’s homeless who use the Caring Hands service.

“I’ve recently visited the Caring Hands foodbank and they’ve got a really good relationship with local growers,” said Mr Huddleston.

“It’s good to know they’ve got people like Tesco community champion Vicki Anderson on hand to help out and organise collections.

“The social element behind it all is great and I’m happy to be here doing my bit. But I’m not doing anything thousands of others aren’t already doing,” he added.

Miss Bennett said: “Over the last 12 years the foodbank movement has exploded as the community have picked up on what we’re trying to do, and have generously got involved.”
