STAFF and students at The De Montfort School enjoyed a double celebration with a top international award and two special visitors.

The school has been honoured with the prestigious International School award by the British Council in recognition of the work to increase global awareness among students.

Assessors praised the school’s efforts to build links with people of different cultures and faiths, a link highlighted by the visit of Neeraj Bhedotiya and Deepak Bharghav.

The principal and academic administrator of Mayoor School in Rajasthan were welcomed into school and Mr Bhedotiya presented the International School Award to headteacher Guy Nichols.

Assistant headteacher Andrew Denton said: “The award was presented at a special assembly where he spoke eloquently about the importance of friendship, global citizenship and overcoming cultural differences.”
