HONEYBOURNE’S Village Show was hailed a success after raising £2,700 to fund a new community centre for the village.

Celebrating the community was at the heart of the village’s first-ever show on Saturday, September 5 where more than 600 visitors from across the Vale turned up to enjoy vehicle displays, craft stalls, tombola, raffle, children’s activities, a tug of war contest and even ferret racing.

The produce and craft show was an event highlight attracting more than 300 exhibits, with guest-of-honour – BBC’s Countryfile star – Joan Bomford, presenting prizes to the winners.

Trophy winners included Jon Heath for ‘Best in Show’ and flowers, Teresa Banks for floral art, Anne Spiers for cookery, Claire Poore for photography and Oliver and Harriet Poore for ‘Best Children’s Exhibit’.

Show Chairman Rita Booth, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the support we’ve had for this event from sponsors, local organisations, volunteers and everyone who came and took part on the day.

“The feedback has all been very positive considering it was our first show and gives us a great basis to build on for future years.”

Village Hall Chairman, Richard Kendrick said: “The show was aimed at bringing our ever growing community together and I think we have achieved this by the tremendous support shown. We look forward to next year.”
