PERSHORE Rotary Club is ready to take on another year of helping challenged communities with the appointment of a new president.

John Angood has taken up the role of president at the club to coincide with the rotary’s 110th anniversary, with the aim of continuing to wipe out the Polio disease and helping other deprived communities worldwide.

Pershore Rotary Club was one of the first contributors to the Polio Programme in 1986, and continues to raise funds for deserving causes both in the Vale and overseas.

“As usual we will respond to worldwide disaster relief in whatever way we can,” said Mr Angood.

“Overseas we will working with rotary clubs in Swindon and Nairobi to improve facilities at the Desai School in a deprived area of Kenya.

“The club will also continue to foster links with Pershore High School and Pershore Horticultural College, helping to inspire young people who show ambition.

“We will also see the launch of the new Pershore Rotary Grant Scheme allowing local groups, individuals and charities to apply for grants, which we hope will improve our already strong links with the community.

“The money raised from our projects throughout the year will be distributed to various needy causes, with Acorns Children’s Hospice and Pershore Riverside Youth Centre continuing to benefit,” he added.
