Car charge now on offer

Evesham Editorial 11th May, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A NEW electric vehicle charge-point has been installed in Evesham with two more in the pipeline to encourage Vale residents to take up the environmentally friendly motors.

Evesham Leisure Centre is the latest location to be given a charge-point as part of an ambitious government-funded plan to urge more people to switch from gas guzzling motors to the modern electric car.

Over the coming months ten more charge-points are to be installed across the county with Evesham Country Park due to receive two of them, which will be available for Vale residents, as well as businesses.

It will cost £5.50 for 45 minutes to charge the electric vehicles, which are being built by Chargemaster on behalf of the county council, and are available for ‘pay as you go’ use through the Charge Your Car network.

Sustainable communities project manager for Worcestershire County Council, Ruth Corrall said: “Electric vehicles are now a viable solution for many people, with an increasing number of cars available on the market from leading manufacturers and they are a great choice for people who want to reduce impact on air pollution, reduce CO2 emissions, and save money.”

Coun Anthony Blagg said: “The council is encouraging the owners of these vehicles to come into the county by providing them with facilities for charging, and by installing more charge-points we are helping to boost the national network.”

The Government currently has a Plug In grant of up to £5,000 to help with the purchase of an electric vehicle, and offers grants for 75 per cent off the cost of a domestic home charge-point.
